Over time, more statistical studies have been done and have demonstrated that today's young people are moving away from literature. They claim that the subject of the books they have to study for the final exam presents stories that are difficult to follow, with characters that have a mentality which is no longer found in the present, this factor creating preconceived ideas about each book in part. After the divided opinions, we wanted to discover if the students from the Theoretic High School Teiuș still read for pleasure in their free time.

We asked 166 students between the ages of 15 and 19, and their honest answers guided us to truly understand their preferences. With a number of 106 positive answers and the remaining 60 negative answers, it was concluded that 64% of the young people at this high school read for pleasure, and 36% do not read at all.

We also wanted to find out how often they prefer reading to another activity, and it turned out that 27% of the total reads sometimes, 26% almost always, 11% always, and the remaining 36% not at all.

For those who answered positively, an additional question was given, asking which literary genre they preferred. Of the options offered, the final results were led by 30% of romance books, followed by 15% thriller books, 14% fantasy, 13% non-fiction, 11% action, 6% classic books, 4% poetry and graphic novels, and finally with only 3%, horror books.

The students’ responses showed us their current preferences, which are in complete opposition to what they are required to study. The results confirm that there are also young people who still give reading a chance, but remain skeptical about always practicing this activity, being influenced by stories that are difficult to understand.
