Lingering past

A Shakespearian sonnet about a feeling that used to be.
I turn around, not feeling you by my side
Underneath these thoughts I succumb
In my future I’ve seen me as your bride
These memories that leave my spirit numb
I know our love didn't feel like a joyride
More storm than peace, more truth than sweet delight
Yet still I held you, even when you lied
And dreamed of us beneath the quiet night
The past still lingers, carved in silent stone,
But time can’t erase what once was fierce and true
Though now I walk this aching path alone
My heart still beats to echoes born of you.
So let me rest where broken hearts still hide
At least in my dreams, I lie close by your side.
