Do you believe in true love? Or do you think it's just a fairytale picture-pefect concept? "A curse for true love" by Stephanie Garber is the last book in the trilogy "Once upon a broken heart". A story where love meets magic, vampires and evil princes that are not like the ones in your dreams.
Released in 2023, "A curse for true love" follows Evangeline's journey to fufill her destiny and find her happy ending. The book starts with Evangeline, the main character who has lost all her memories in the previous book from the series "A ballad of never after". She doesn’t remember anything about Jacks or what she should do for the profecy that dictates her life. She feels in her heart that there's something she should remember, but she doesn't know quite what. Apollo, the evil prince, who is now her husband, is the one who took her memories and is trying to keep it hidden. As the story progresses, Evangeline seems to remember certain things, and that's when Jacks starts to be around and make her remember. What Jacks and Evangeline have is a forbidden love, that could kill both of them, and that's the reason they can't be together. Everything comes between them, from dangerous love spells to monsters who hunt them. They seem to be what’s called "star-crossed lovers", and that destiny is what controls them. But what if they had the power to change their fate?
Towards the end of the book, everything seem to fall back into place. Or does it? It's definitely a book full of plot twists and you can never really tell what is going to happen next. It keeps you heart clunged until the very last page.
This book highlights the fact that no matter how terrible your situation might me, even when it seems your whole life has been predetermined, you have the power to change your destiny. Evangeline learns that she is the hero and the savior of her own story and she discovers the power inside of her and her true love that she has been waiting for. In my opinion, this is the best book in the trilogy and I definitely recommend it. There is only one thing I didn't really like about the book. Like Kaya explained in her review on Wordpress.ro, it is the fact that Jacks, the misunderstood villan that we all love so much, was not present enough. But I guess it left us in anticipation so that he could boldly return at the end of the book to give us the finale we were expecting.
This book was so good and the writing style is amazing. Stephanie Garber just does an incredible job in creating magical worlds we get lost in. All of her characters are wonderfully made and create a fantastic space that allows all of our dreams and thoughts to come to life. But don't forget to also read her other trilogy "Caraval", which is somehow connected to "Once upon a broken heart" series. And who knows? Maybe this is your sign to seek for your own happy ending and to forge your own destiny.
